What’s out there about you may be telling a different story from the one you want told.

You’ve been told that your work will speak for itself. That’s not true. And most importantly, your work cannot speak for you.

And if you don’t interpret your story for others, others will interpret it for you.

Authored is about noticing the story already being told, understanding how it came about, and becoming more discerning and deliberate about the part you play in shaping it.

This is for you if

  1. 01Someone has introduced you and you’ve thought, Yikes. That’s not actually what I’m about.
  2. 02You wear many hats, have what people call a portfolio career, or call yourself a multi-hyphenate, and you struggle to convey the breadth of your expertise. Or you’re a generalist (no judgement, I’m one too). You have your fingers in many pies, and that’s one of the reasons people misunderstand what you actually do.
  3. 03You’ve changed roles, direction or ambitions, but the way people understand you hasn’t changed with you. They still think of you as the person who does X, when really, you’re all about Y now.
  4. 04You love ideas, theories and concepts. You can talk about what you know, but you want people to really get it. And get you.
  5. 05You’re in an organisation, and your contribution, your motivation or your team is being misunderstood. It’s hard to correct misunderstandings, but Authored is about that. Noticing the gap or dissonance. And doing something about it. Setting the record straight (possibly multiple times), in the service of a team, a project or your career.

This isn’t about fixing your LinkedIn.

Though you may decide it needs fixing.

Your LinkedIn is one of the many places a story about you is being told. So is your bio, on Instagram and everywhere else online. It's the way someone introduces you. What comes up when someone asks ChatGPT or Google about you. What people say about you when you’re not in the room. And, importantly, what you say about yourself.

Sometimes none of it is wrong, and yet it just doesn’t add up to the story you want people to understand.

Authorship is bigger than any one channel. It’s a practice.

What we'll explore

In 75 minutes, we’ll look at:

  • Why perfectly accurate words can still leave people with the wrong idea about you
  • What happens when one part of your work becomes the whole story people remember
  • How you can be putting yourself out there and still be hiding behind the words you use
  • The beliefs that can keep us waiting to be understood, discovered or recognised
  • How to recognise when the story being told about you, your work or your team is incomplete, and what you can do about it
  • How to begin becoming more authored, wherever you are in your career.

What matters most to me is that you leave Authored with more than a new understanding of why owning your narrative matters.

I’ll share plenty of examples of what being more authored looks like, whether you’re already leading or aspire to. And I’ll give you a shortlist of actions you can take immediately to own your narrative.

I’ve always thought of myself as someone who moves the needle. Sometimes I say I make magic happen. And I bloody well hope to move the needle for you in these 75 minutes.

What people say

“We were introduced to Anne Mühlethaler a year ago to look into digital marketing consultation for our company. What we found was that Anne has given us so much more than just marketing advice. As a business that has been active for over 25 years we were in desperate need of a post‑covid look at ourselves, our ethos, our dreams, our communication and our mission. Anne has held our hand through advice on difficult conversations, introductions to helpful relevant external partners and helping us step outside ourselves and look at the business from a new perspective. It has been an extremely helpful, inspiring, motivating and exciting journey that we just want to carry on with Anne forever.”
Pippa Small, founder, Pippa Small Jewellery
“Anne has the unique ability to almost act as a human mirror. She is able to comprehend the essence of a person or project and reflect it back in a way that allows one to see it clearly for oneself.”
Hanna Fiedler, founder
"Working with you has changed my life. You have given me my story — how precious is that? And you have given me the confidence to make this move now, without fear."
David H.
“Anne was brought in to distill the vision of the founder and creative director into a clearly deliverable global communications strategy. She was tasked with sourcing new talent to lead agreed activations, while simultaneously mentoring a young communications team. Anne's approach was agile and results driven, ranging from strategy to implementation, board level to inter‑departmental, external to internal communications, all while keeping the broader business goals in mind. Anne is a changemaker and can be relied on to bring innovative approaches and new perspectives to any project. I would not hesitate to work with her again.”
Michelle Mahlke, General Manager
“Anne allowed me to focus on the needs of the company. From recruiting the right elements in these troubled times, to visualising the brand's DNA through social media, Anne is a true multifaceted professional.”
Roland Mouret, Founder & Creative Director
“Anne Mühlethaler was recommended to me by a friend and not only did I discover an amazing person but also a great asset for my company. She has on top of that a very mindful and human approach to the business. Anne is a “visionnaire”, she is very good at growing your business on a 360 level.”
Natascha Sayn‑Wittgenstein, Founder
“I couldn't have asked for a better sparring partner than Anne. Not only does she have an in‑depth understanding of the fashion industry, she takes a holistic view on the projects she's working on — calm, always friendly, and highly competent.”
Gunnar Brock, Former COO

Your host

I’m Anne V Mühlethaler.

I spent 17 years at Christian Louboutin, from the shop floor to SVP of Global Communications, working across sales, business development, retail, brand and communications as the company grew from a small Parisian shoe business into a global luxury brand.

Today I work with leaders, founders and experts on story, communication and the narratives that shape how we understand ourselves and how others understand us.

And yes, I learned some of what I’ll share in Authored by getting my own story wrong.

Questions

Who is Authored for?
Women called to lead, whether you’re already in a leadership role, aspiring to one, or looking to have greater influence and impact in the work you do, even at a middle management level.
Is this about personal branding?
Your personal brand may be one expression of it, but Authored is about something wider: becoming more aware of the story already being told about you, and more deliberate about the part you play in shaping it.
What if I’m still figuring out my story or my positioning?
Come. You don’t need to have your positioning worked out or know exactly what you want to be known for. In fact, we’ll talk about what authorship can look like when you’re still in the middle of becoming.
Will I leave with something I can actually use?
Yes. Alongside examples and a broader understanding of authorship, you’ll leave with a shortlist of actions you can take immediately to become more authored.

A story about you is already being told.
